Abu Hanifa en-Numan ibn Sabit al-Kufi September 5, 699, Al-Kufa - June 18, 767, Baghdad) is an Islamic theologian, fakih and muhaddis, the founder and eponym of one of the four Sunni law schools - the Hanafi madhhab.Born in the city of Kufa in the family of a wealthy silk merchant of Iranian origin (from the Iranian mawali) and, most likely, was the only son of his parents.
His grandfather converted to Islam during the time of the caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab.
In Kufa, Abu Hanifa received a general and theological education.
Among his teachers were the companions of the Prophet Muhammad.
